Wolverhampton | Sandwell | Dudley | Walsall

4 - 15 October 2021

Sandwell is a prime location with a rapidly increasing

business sector. There are some 9,000 companies

which employ around 140,000 people across an impressive

range of industry sectors, with manufacturing, mining, entertainment, construction and motor trades all featuring very strongly.

There has been substantial investment in the region resulting in significant improvements to facilities for residents including the £450m West Bromwich Regeneration and the £353m Midland Metropolitan Hospital.

Sandwell is a location where businesses thrive. It has the highest number of new enterprises anywhere in the Black Country resulting in the highest Gross Value Added in the Black Country.

On-going commitments to education have seen a £6.6million project to improve primary school facilities through to a new University Technical College on the old Sandwell College site, providing both teaching and recreational facilities alongside specialist laboratories for improved scientific and technical education.

The £20 million project partnership between Sandwell Council, Accord Group and the Homes and Communities Agency will focus on transforming the site into an attractive, modern residential and enterprise space. Urban 180 Residential Scheme is a mixed-use development, providing West Bromwich with quality, affordable homes. In addition to this, the Lyng housing development aims to provide West Bromwich with more affordable, high quality and sustainable housing. To meet demand, the scheme will deliver over 400 homes to the local area. It will help to improve the quality of life for current and future residents of West Bromwich as the estate sits near the town centre, walking distance from shops and transport links.

The demolition and clearance of the former Sandwell College campus on the High Street and its relocation to the new Central Campus on Spon Lane has created a development opportunity for a new purpose-built educational facility. The facility will host a fitness gym and a multi-use games area available to members of the local community.

The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital will deliver state of the art treatment facilities, caring for patients from Sandwell and across the region! The Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital Trust is due to open in 2022, and it is expected to become the civic heart of the area. The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital will collaborate with higher education establishments such as Aston Medical School based in Birmingham and Wolverhampton. Historic industrial site, which formally employed 3,500 people and was home to Glassworks, is marked for a £25 million investment transformation into an urban village providing space for business and leisure.

The opportunities in Sandwell don’t end there. Plans are in place for the second phase of the regeneration to West Bromwich which will include: £1.8m Midland Metro Turn Back facility to improve physical and economic links with Birmingham city centre, 700 residential units at Bescot Friar Park and 450 homes at Grove Lane.

Think Sandwell at Sandwell Council is also on hand to offer extensive business support to existing and new businesses interested in relocation or investing in the area.
